Auguries of Innocence

This is a completely different type of vellum - smooth, almost waxy under the fingers, with the pattern of bloodvessels showing under the surface. As with the knobbly vellum on Urban Birds, it is incredibly tactile.
The book is Blake's Auguries of Innocence, printed by the Cygnet Press in 1975 on a crisp mould-made paper with a deckle edge that crackles as you turn the page.
The text block was sewn on alum-tawed pigskin slips, with headbands of white linen thread.
I really enjoyed revisiting this evocative but occasionally obscure poem with a animal-rights message that was truly shocking when it was written, about 1803.
